Junior Firefighter Program Standard Operating Procedures

Eligibility

1.          Any resident of the City of Bertram (or within the Bertram Volunteer Fire Department Jurisdiction), between the ages of 16-18, may make application for membership in the Bertram Volunteer Fire Department Junior Firefighter Program. 

 

2.          The applicant must be in good academic standing at his/her school at the time of application and during the period of membership as a Junior Firefighter. A minimum GPA of 2.0 ("C") must be maintained. Failure to comply will result in immediate suspension from the Program. The Junior Firefighter must supply the Junior Fire Commander a copy of each report acknowledging the minimum GPA of 2.0 (“C”) throughout the fiscal school year.

 

3.          The applicant must complete an application for membership. They must complete a medical physical within the first 30 days after acceptance of application and pass a police background check. Included with the application is a parental consent that must be signed by a parent or legal guardian. The Bertram Volunteer Fire Department Fire Chief and Junior Fire Commander must approve the application prior to departmental submittal.
